Is the free tier really free?
Yes. Every essay ships free, in your inbox, in full. The paid tiers exist for readers who want the monthly Data Digs, the searchable archive, and the quarterly briefing call — they don't subsidize the free tier. The free tier subsidizes itself, with attention.
Why a paid tier at all?
Because the work that takes the longest — primary-source data parsing, chart building, and on-the-record builder interviews — doesn't fit on a "free, weekly" cadence. Paid subscribers fund the part of the work that takes weeks, not hours.
Do you take sponsors or advertise?
No. No ads, no sponsored posts, no affiliate links, no "presented by." Coverage of housing economics is too easy to compromise. We'd rather be smaller and trusted.
Can I expense it?
Yes. The Pro and Firm tiers come with a clean monthly receipt addressed to your business. The Firm tier also includes an internal-distribution license.
